Advanced Virtual Studio - Portal 2024 [DE]

Glove with led light animation and button Actor put hisd hand through a portal and looks at his hand reaching in from the other side.png Actor is multiple times seen via a portal. Actor on the ground with strong spotlight
Actor opens portal Actor steps through a portal Finger closes switch for starting an action Stepping into a different room
Machine room with depth of field Hand held tracked camera for egocentric view Camera can be virtual far away because the virtual camera looks at a video texture. Teleportation to a forest
Entering a cave with candle lights Inside of a subway with occlusion and depth of field Outside of the subway with shaking added in the post production Unreal Fun - Turned video texture

The production was carried out in 2024/2025 as part of the Advanced Virtual Studio project Portal at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences. The goal was interactions using markerless person tracking at the virtual studio. The graphics were rendered live with Viz Artist 5 and Unreal 5. Captury's markerless person tracking delivers skeleton data for resolving occlusion, which is handled by moving a video plane using the distance of the actor from the camera. An own build glove has LED, which can be animated and remotely controlled using http. The glove has also a switch, which sends out OSC messages for triggering animations. Most parts were rendered in real-time, but the video consists out of many different takes. The shaking of the subway was done in the post. An egocentric camera perspective was created using a hand-held tracked camera, producing natural camera moves.
