The test stimulus was reproduced via the middle loudspeaker, and listeners had to judge whether the recorded sound they

heard had been either occluded or unoccluded by the rectangular obstruction shown as partially transparent in the photograph.

The laterally-positioned loudspeakers always delivered the same reverberant sound simulation, regardless of whether the

test stimulus was occluded or not.
