Abstract: Virtual Production Outside the Studio for Low-Budget Film Productions [DE]
Leon Staack, Virtual Production Outside the Studio for Low-Budget Film Productions, Hochschule Düsseldorf, Bachelor thesis, 03.11.2025.
This thesis designs a low-budget AR system intended to enable AR visualization for film
productions with limited financial resources. Virtual production can take many forms. The
following section discusses possible use cases and explains why virtual production systems
could offer not only practical but also creative benefits.
A VP system gathers the intrinsic and extrinsic parameters of a camera and transfers
them to a virtual camera. This thesis outlines the steps required for this process and
highlights the challenges that may arise.
In an expert interview, the extent to which the system developed in this work is
successful is discussed, as well as the areas where improvements are still needed. A critical factor
for use during film shoots is the reliability of camera tracking. As a previs tool, the system is
already well usable.
