Resource Management

Describing a realistic virtual reality environment requires many sound sources. The best way is to put all sources in the virtual reality environment, but the number of resources is limited. A spatialization resource manager decides how the resources are mapped to output channels. This assignment is determined by the properties of sources and sinks (e.g., direction, intensity, priority). Figure 1 outlines a spatialization resource management system. The resource manager gets the source and sink information, while the preferences provides static information, like how many channels the spatialization module can use. The sound master is an abstract interface for spatialization module, allowing any kind of module to be managed. The resource manager should know the number of resources which can be used, so the sound master gives dynamically information to the resource manager.
